We will be honoring those who have fought for our freedom on Sunday. Any military personnel are encouraged to come in uniform. We are a blessed people because of the sacrifice of thousands through the years. We must never forget the high cost of freedom. Our spiritual freedom came at a high cost to Jesus and our national freedom comes with a high cost to those who fight for us.
The month of May wraps up with our final study in the fruits of the Spirit. I am inspired by the picture God paints for us of what we can be when we walk closely in relationship with Him. We are growing in knowledge and we want to put that knowledge into action. It’s going to be a great day!
Galatians 5:1 Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.

Cathy and I had a wonderful experience this past weekend visiting Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. The service we attended was full of God’s presence and it was a joy to worship the Lord with the thousands who gathered. On Monday we joined with about 50 pastors from around the country to dialogue with Joel Osteen about partnering with him to reach the millions of unchurched people who watch their weekly television program. There are about 20 million viewers of which 10 million are not connected to a church family. We were deeply moved by Joel’s heart to introduce people to the hope we find in relationship with Jesus. He is a humble and tender-hearted leader who has surrendered His life to be used by God. We are looking forward to partnering with them as they bring their Night of Hope to Sacramento at Arco Arena on November 5, 2010.
Sunday our focus from Galatians 5 lands on three more fruits of the Spirit: patience, kindness, and goodness. It is so important that we receive the truths of God’s Word into our lives to transform us. I am anticipating growing with you as we open our hearts to God’s love and encouragement.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

The rest of May we will be learning how to grow in character so that there is good fruit coming from our lives. People need something good to happen around them, to them, and in them. We have such incredible opportunities to influence our world toward faith in Jesus simply by growing in our ability to live by the power of His Spirit. It’s pruning time! We are going to rid ourselves of the bad fruit and cultivate the good.
Sunday also presents a great experience with the children of Capital. They will be presenting a great message through their gifts, talents, and enthusiasm for the Lord. Please consider supporting our children with your presence on Sunday evening at 6pm.
Galatians 5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

THANK YOU FOR CARING!! Last year our Capital family gave $1,083,000 to missions work in the United States and in 76 countries around the world. All this in the midst of the worst recession we have seen in several decades. It is a great honor to participate in sharing the hope we have in Jesus with the world. Please consider joining with us in contributing monthly to this world-wide mission.
$10 a month provides a day of radio programming in Indonesia.
$20 a month provides 40 audio Bibles to disciple new believers in their own language.
$25 a month provides diapers and formula for a newborn orphan in Romania.
$30 a month provides a lifetime of clean water for three families in a third world country.
$40 a month provides tuition, room and board for a national pastor to be trained for ministry in their own country.
Sunday is Mother’s Day. I am looking forward to gathering for lunch with my family which will include my mom, my wife, my daughter who is now a mother, and Judah, the seven month old light of our lives. “Go Girl” is the theme of the day. It is going to be a joy-filled day!
Remember . . . God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7).
